So I have been running a Maxtor Onetouch 4 Mini as my external hard drive Time Machine device. I did not install any of the original software included on the device. I have been running it effectively for a month+. A few days ago I tried to plug in and had trouble. The front light would tern on for about 4 seconds, then turn off. I can hear the HD spinning despite the light being off. Once plugged in, the icon does not appear on the desktop. Neither is it listed on the disk utility or finder.
I tried to unplug and wait several times. I also restarted my Macbook with it plugged in. I went to my friends PC and plugged in and it was not detected there either, so it is clearly an issue with the drive and not my mac.
From what I've read my drive could be in sleep mode, but really I'm at a loss here on how to get this running again and would appreciate any ideas.
